Madurai prisoners pass Class 12 Board exams with flying colours
There is hope for everyone. The inmates of this prison are proving just that, thanks to the prison authorities. All the 28 prison inmates in the Madurai range who wrote the Class 12 Tamil Nadu state board examinations have done so with flying colours-with some of them scoring more than 1000 marks out of 1200. Nine of these 28 prisoners are inmates of Madurai Central Prison while 19 others are serving their sentences in Palayamkottai Central Prison.
B Papanasam, an inmate in Palayamkottai prison, scored 1084 while Ramesh from Madurai Central Prison secured 1044 marks. R Kanagaraj, deputy inspector general of prisons, Madurai range, said the consistent efforts of prison authorities had yielded positive results as more prisoners started appearing in public up examinations. “We are glad that all the inmates who wrote the exams scored good marks,” he told The Times Of India.
Kanagaraj said prisoners who wrote the board exams were trained by external teachers with the help of NGOs. These teachers took special classes on weekends. “We have several qualified teachers among prisoners. They also helped those who appeared for exams,” he added.
