Tigers population increases from 83 to 104 in Kaziranga National Park

The famous Kaziranga National Park in Assam now has 104 tigers. In 2014, the number of tigers was only 83.

The forest authorities found and counted up to 95 adult tigers around the Kaziranga National Park area. Two adult tigers and their cubs were found in Burachapori which also comes under the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve.

The area of the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve is 860sqkm while the rate or density of the tigers is 21 tigers per 100sqkm. Satyendra Singh, the field director for the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve, told The Times of India,

In 2014, the maximum range for the tiger population in Kaziranga was 116. This time, the maximum range is 117. Though there is no significant rise in population, it is stable. It indicates that the tiger habitat is intact and healthy. The thriving tiger population points to the fact that there is a healthy prey base for the big cats. In fact, there is a possibility that there are more tigers than the estimates. We are planning to make our next estimate more comprehensive.

Apart from that, the concerned authorities are taking every step possible to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals in the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve area. Section 144 has been enacted along the National Highway number 37 from Jakholabondha to Bokakhat and the areas near Numaligarh for free and easy movement of animals that often come out of the Kaziranga National Park during the monsoons.

The SDO of the National Park in a chat with The Indian Express said,

We are also getting ready to issue time card for each vehicle for movement and set up check points at various areas on the highway passing by the National Park.
