Sukanti, the visually disabled 'Wonder Woman' makes it to Odisha revenue services

There are real-life superheroes who fight the challenges life throws at them and display unwavering commitment towards their values and their work. Sukanti Dash, a visually challenged woman from Odisha who has joined the State Revenue Services of Odisha state, is the epitome of strength and perseverance that encourages us all to move forward, regardless of difficulties.

Blind since birth, Sukanti was once a teacher—a 'Sikshya Sahayaka' with the state's education department, after earning her postgraduate degree in History from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. She taught hundreds of children, lived with minimal facilities, and also took care of her family. She will now serve the people of Odisha as a civil servant.

In this Facebook post, her colleague Swetapadma Satpathy narrates what Sukanti has to say about overcoming her struggles,

"We have to do it like the mainstream people, it's just that we have to put some more efforts. I don't want people to undermine my abilities, for no fault of mine. So, I am proving myself everyday, that I am not abnormal".

Swetapadma, who is greatly inspired by Sukanti, says,

"I can't thank God enough, to show me miracles like this, to believe that perseverance never goes waste and to tell you all the story of this real-life Wonder Woman. All of us, who crib about lack of opportunities, discrimination, afraid of being a woman, look up and remember this face when in doubt. All your doubts and fear will melt away."
