We exist in a marketplace where millions of brands are vying for their customer's attention. So audience engagement becomes the topmost priority for any marketing professional. Your brand might have a large fan following, but if you don't engage with your customers and add value to their lives in a way your competition does, you might as well say goodbye to those patrons. Establishing and building a community through content and social media marketing is no easy task. You need to focus on interacting with your audience constantly, fostering new relationships and nurturing existing ones.

Here are five simple tips that will help you connect with your target audience like never before.

Speak directly to your target audience

Develop a brand voice that reminds your customers why they love your brand and continue to associate with your brand. Use this voice in all your communication, right from your social media content to your email marketing. Don't just communicate, but hold conversations with your audience. Talk to your audience as though you're sitting across the dining table from them. Address your buyer persona directly and interact as often as you can. One-on-one communication is more intimate than a mega-horn.

Offer something valuable to your audience

People across the world crave exclusivity. When you do this, they'll automatically gravitate towards you and spread the word. Instead of imitating your competitors, come up with your own topics on which you can offer your unique take. When you create unique insights, your audience will keep coming back for more.

Use the power of emotions

Never underestimate the power of emotions. Use humour, compassion, and empathy while addressing your audience. If you make your audience smile or shed a tear, you've forged a bond right there. Humans love to relate to others on an emotional level and hence these emotions are great to tap into. Show your audience that your company is built with real people - that it has a face and a personality and not just a logo.

Take a firm stance

Your audience considers you as an expert when it comes to your field. Prove your expertise to them by not only providing valuable insights but also by taking a firm stance. Back up your points with solid evidence. Maintain your credibility by supporting your statements with sources.

Provide opportunity for feedbacks

The easiest way to connect with your audience is through feedback. Ask them about their experience with your company, your products and your services. If your audience has conflicting views on a topic that involves you, share your views on the topic with them. When you engage in healthy debate, you connect with your audience emotionally and intellectually.
