Did LinkedIn just pull a Facebook? Now you can react to posts using reaction emoticons
Undoubtedly, LinkedIn is one of the most popular sites for professional networking and for staying up-to-date with all the latest developments in the jobs-space. But when it comes to the user-engagement, it kept it pretty old-school with the basic ‘like’ button for it’s feed.
That is, until now. All is about to change as the career-focussed social network introduces a host of reaction emoticons – much like what we already have on Facebook.
However, unlike Facebook the Microsoft-owned platform is keeping the emojis more business-inspired to allow users to share appropriate reactions to a particular post.
For instance, for a job well done, you can react with the good old ‘Like’ or ‘Celebrate’ reaction. Something that stirs a conversation could be responded to with an ‘Insightful’ emoticon. And for posts that piques your interest, there’s the ‘Curious’ reaction.
LinkedIn’s Cissy Chen shared in a blog post:
“People come to LinkedIn every day to discover what’s happening in their professional communities and talk to one another about topics and ideas related to their work. One of the things we regularly hear from all of you is that you want more expressive ways than a 'Like' to respond to the variety posts you see in your feed.”
“That’s why today we’re starting to roll out a set of Reactions on LinkedIn, giving you more ways to quickly and constructively communicate with one another,” the post mentioned.
LinkedIn’s reaction have been designed with a thoughtful approach to add value to the conversations that users engage in each day on the networking site. This means going through a hosts of feedback, and analysing the “top 1-2 word comments” that are being used on the site.
While the reactions are being introduced on the site as well as the app, it might take some time before it’s visible to all the LinkedIn users across the globe.
