Boxing is a tough sport which challenges a person’s body to new extremes. It trains you to be fit and healthy, and if you do it right, an awesome fighter. If you’re on of the people trying out boxing for the first time, here are 7 essential training tips that’ll help on your road to success. These tips will take a toll on you but will also aid you, as you’ll go on.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re boxing to gain strength or just looking to get some good cardiovascular workout out of your way, these tips are going to help you either way.
1. Proper amount of Sleep:
Sleep is important no matter who you are or what you do. Sleeping a minimal amount can harm your health, drop your performance level and slow you down a lot. So try to get your complete 8 hours for the night, therefore your execution isn’t hampered with. Too much sleep isn’t good for you either, it makes you lazy and slows you down. 8 hours is the perfect amount no more no less. Here are some of the things you can do to prevent bad sleeping sessions:
• Quit having naps in the day time, they won’t let you sleep at night
• Caffeine is also one of the reasons you’re staying awake at night so stop having excessive amounts of coffee right before bed.
• Leave your cell phone, laptop, iPad and whatever else there is in the living room, because these snatch sleep away right from your eyes right when you’re about to snooze away.
2. A Proper Diet:
A boxer’s diet should really be out of the ordinary if you’re looking to score some runs in good health as well. You should make yourself a diet plan that you can follow throughout the day. It should list the things you can and cannot eat and when each meal need to start and end. It should also include the total amount of calories intake for you, in a day. Good nutrition allow you to have bigger amounts of energy throughout the day, energy is what you need to maintain your stamina in a fight, and so good health means a good fight. Complex Carbohydrates and an ample amount of proteins will help you build your body. Complex Carbohydrates are hard for the body to break down and takes time to move through the intestine and therefore will last longer in your body, providing you with the fuel you need for a fight.
Proteins help in building the muscle and repairing it after tough fights, so you will need to increase your intake of protein too.
Foods that are good for you are listed down below:
• Carbohydrates: yams, beans, whole-wheat grain, oatmeal, sweet potatoes and brown rice.
• Proteins: Chicken, tuna, eggs and lean beef
3. Interval Training:
You may know a little bit about interval training because it’s all over the internet. Interval training is a great way to burn off some calories off of you in a short amount of time. Interval training won’t be very easy and so I suggest you start preparing up for it right now, build up your stamina and start getting ready. There are many kinds of different routines in interval training, that’ll all effect you in different ways. Let’s just come up with a simple plan right here. Start from running 300 meters, take 2 minutes rest. Now run double that and take less time to recover, something like 600 meters and a minute break. Repeat these runs with the same intervals twice a day. After the run, do some basic exercises to further build your stamina for the day, like squats, pushups, jumping jacks and other stuff you already know off.

Self-loathing won’t get anyone anywhere and in boxing it gets even worse. So start trusting yourself and know that if you’ll train hard all your goals will be achieved. Remember also that failure is a part of success and you will lose a fight or two at first or will get injured by the smallest of things, but all these are just steps on a stair to success. I know all this is really cheesy but it’s true. Thus remember never ever quit or think about it, if you’re passionate about boxing you’ll get there in no time but then again not without failure.
5. Skipping Rope:
You’d have seen boxers in movies doing a lot of skipping, and why that’s actually shown is really important. Skipping might seem like a 12 year old girls exercise but it’s actually really effective for boxers. It great for calf muscles, which is essential for any boxer. Skipping also helps your stamina, because it can be really tough if you do it the way a boxers supposed to. Skipping can be done in a number of different ways, all which will help you immensely. So I suggest you go and by yourself a skipping rope and start jumping now.
6. Punches and how you should land them:
Punching is something that need the entire body’s attention and you’ll have to get your entire body involved when you punch and not just your arms. Punching slow won’t hurt you all that much, and you won’t lose your energy all that quick either. Throw short hooks, short uppercuts, and short rights but long jabs. Light combos will be better for you too, because again you don’t want to lose that energy of yours quickly. Slow down and hit hard punches that you can actually score, not 8 combos and leave yourself open to get hurt.
7. Boxing and Defense:
Defense is an essential part of boxing, even if you’re an attacking player you’ll have to take a punch or two every once in a while. Defending yourself is important but don’t be afraid to punch out your opponent when he’s in a fast attacking combo, that’s when he’s the most vulnerable to one of your hard punches. Also remember when you’re being attacked don’t back down, stand your ground and keep your eyes peeled on your opponent at all times. And well hold your hands high, elbows down and your head moving.
