Summer is here and temperatures are high with little relief. But this autorickshaw driver in Hyderabad is quenching people’s thirst by offering drinking water - for free. Meet 45-year-old Shaik Saleem, who carries water in his vehicle to help quench the thirst of people in Secunderabad as well.

Every day, Shaik purchases two water bottles of 20 litres, pours them into a filter attached to his vehicle. Deccan Chronicle quotes Shaik,

It’s been three years since I started supplying water to the citizens of Hyderabad. The Quran says to give food and water to all people. Whatever you distribute will come back to you in equal measure.

Shaik leaves his home at 9 am every morning and roams around the city by picking and dropping passengers and offering water to any person in need. He does this till 6 pm every evening. He serves water to traffic policemen, passers-by, and commuters, reports The Hans India.

A resident of Falaknuma in Hyderabad, Shaik lives in Fatima Nagar with his wife and four children, and has been driving an autorickshaw since 1993.

When asked what made him start this initiative, he said,

When I used to drive my auto around the city in summer, I used to get thirsty and couldn’t find a source for water. The available sources would either be from the borewell or would be too hot to drink. I couldn’t leave my passengers between to fetch water.

He added,

Since then, I started keeping water in my auto, so others in need of water shouldn’t face the same dilemma that I faced once, reports Siasat.
