The Global Indian
There are many reasons behind their success and continued reign at the pinnacle of private education. The younger scion of the family Aseem Chauhan is a driving force behind their ventures and is well known for his innovative thinking.
What sets Aseem Chauhan in the mould of a leader is his defining visions and approach to doing things. Having worked with the private equity industry closely he knows what it takes to make a venture successful. He believes, “Its not just ideas or projections that leads to business success but the actual implementation and execution of an idea.”
It is no wonder that he has been instrumental in taking Amity to unprecedented heights and is busy with pan India expansions of the institution. His astute business sense has also been the focal point and reason behind the cash positive and profitable ventures in Amity Incubation, after all he says, “what’s the point if you have a great business but with no clear revenue stream”. His skill in incubating and mentoring ventures is fast becoming legend, but his joy lies in creation.
Amity has been innovative in its approach to making its students industry prepared. Its willingness to bank on its students has been manifested in Youthtv, It is Amity’s 24-hour television channel featuring Educational Programs made in an on-campus studio by students. The 20 crores or so that they invested prove that Aseem is ready and able to put his money where his words are, he says “Our strength is our students”.
"We know that there is vast amount of creative energy in the Indian youth. We want it to be a part in building the concept. We have tried to make education more interactive by including different forms of media in the system"
Aseem believes that a singular focus on money may make an entrepreneur successful but is not a hallmark for greatness. He has been quoted saying “Best entrepreneurs are those who are not chasing money but passion.”
Aseem has been true to his words and has worked on his own passion for football. His collaborative efforts with Bhijoy Basu director (coaching) Magic of Football, saw fanatics of the beautiful game make a beeline for the Amity University Sports Complex to attend a world class coaching camp. His dream is not just to produce good footballers in Amity Universities but to someday have a world class Indian team.
Aseem wears many hats, and aside from being the Additional president and Board member of the Ritnand Baldev Education Foundation, also serves as the CEO of the Crossborder Group. His posts and ranks are well deserved and in keeping with his abilities and experience. His stint with AEA investors and Philadelphia Ventures formed the training ground where he learnt the ropes to his business. His experiences in venture capital have ranged from leveraging million dollar buyouts to investing $500 million globally. Making sound investments for Fortune 100 CEO’s and wealthy families was but one of the many areas that he excelled in. His tenure with Mercer Management Consulting familiarized him with the strategy and planning behind companies like JP Morgan.
An Alumnus of The Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania and of the prestigious Jerome Fisher Program in Management & Technology Aseem comes from a very elite educational background. It makes good sense in light of these facts that he serves on the Government of India’s National Committee for Biotechnology Policy and the CII National Committee for Higher, Technical & Vocational Education. His three decades spent in Europe and the U.S. has broadened his vision to one of a true Global citizen. His upbringing in a traditional Indian Family is not lost on him either, and his efforts to make India a global leader have been relentless. Aseem Chauhan exemplifies the best in a Global Indian effortlessly bridging the gaps that separate us from the world.
