Business plan competition : Queen’s Entrepreneurs’ Competition Canada

Monday May 10, 2010 , 2 min Read

Greetings from the Queen’s Entrepreneurs’ Competition (The QEC) based in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. We’re very pleased to partner with YourStory in promoting the QEC 2011. Allow us to tell you a bit about the competition…

Who Are We?

In its 23rd year, the QEC is the foremost international undergraduate business plan competition in Canada, organised entirely by students. Every year, we receive business plan submissions from undergraduate students of top universities in Canada and around the world, all competing for $25,000 in cash prizes that help them jumpstart their business ventures. In addition to the cash prizes, our judges also provide valuable feedback to all teams that have submitted a business plan. The QEC works hard to provide competitors a platform to share their business ideas, meet other young entrepreneurs, and network with leaders in the business community.

Past Competition Highlights

The QEC has received submissions from all over the world – Portugal, the UK, South Africa, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore, to name a few. Past judges include Tim Wilson (President of Visa Canada), Grant Rassmussen (President and CEO of UBS Bank Canada), and John Sleeman (CEO of Sleeman Breweries). Past speakers include Bryan Pearson (President of Air Miles Canada), Brett Wilson (Dragon on CBC's the Dragons’ Den) and Clive Beddoe (Founder of Westjet Airlines).

Who Should Apply? How to Apply?

All undergraduate students (including those who had undergraduate status at any point during the period of November 2009 to November 2010), from all faculties, are welcomed to apply. Existing proposals are valid and qualify for consideration provided the plan has not qualified as a finalist in a previous QEC competition. Students may apply individually or in a team of up to four members. Business plans should be submitted electronically (via email).

Competition Timeline

The deadline for electronic business plan submissions is November 5th, 2010. The top 16 teams will be notified in December, 2010. Top teams invited to attend the QEC Final Weekend taking place January 20-22nd, 2011 will have the option of submitting their revised business plans by mid-January.
