Every Room Has A Story, Make Yours!
House becomes a home only on adding that human and personal touch to it. Every home reflects the story and personality of the people living in that house. Helping people build their homes with that personal touch is Roomstory.com. “We believe that every room in a person’s home and tells a story about who they are and what defines their personality. And everything that they put in that room, from the art on the walls to the cups they drink their morning tea in, all are building blocks that help craft their story. RoomStory.com is here to help customers build their room story with us through a wide selection of quality home products, great customer experience, and tools & advice to help them choose what fits their story,” says Nipun Virmani, Co-Founder, Roomstory.com.
With an aim to change the way Indian consumers decorate their homes, Roomstory provides their customer a wide range of brands that they can shop with from the comfort of their home. Apart from the gifting options that they provide, they are primarily stocked with everything for a home ranging from kitchenware to bathware, décor to furnishing.
While Nipun (MBA MIT Sloan) brings the contagious MIT entrepreneurial spirit to the table, Prerak (MBA Kellogg School of Management) adds his family pedigree in the furnishing business to complete the magic of the founding team. Started by founders with over a decade’s experience in the area of technology, Roomstory.com is focused on leveraging technology for the longer term competitive edge over the other players in this space. Having said that, Roomstory also places great emphasis on customer experience right from the product selection, the visual appeal of the website, delivery, packaging, customer care and all other tools to create a fun shopping experience with an emotional connect for all who shop with them.
Targeting women with an interest in shopping for their home in the age-group of 25-45, Roomstory caters to both the busy working women from the bigger cities and women from Tier II cities who earn to travel to bigger cities to shop for their home. Launched in April 2012 and fully functional since May, this startup has partnered with about 40 suppliers such as Maspar, Happily Unmarried, Arttdinox, Philips and more and are also adding new ones every week. With a strong product range especially in specific categories such as glasses and cushion covers the website has over 1200 products available to their customers.
With a diverse marketing strategy, Roomstory.com uses both online and a few offline channels as well. Being an ecommerce company, this startup has also found value in Google and Facebook ads like many other predecessors and thus invests in them to secure targeted visibility. Besides, their online advertising spend has paid off with the company receiving requests from Japan and the US for their unique range of products. As for customer engagement, they are active on social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest to engage with them. They also place some of their products in the print media to get some eyeballs and on a small scale using flyers and posters in the Indian capital city of Delhi. Bootstrapped at the moment, this startup is looking for funding.
“Like I mentioned earlier, RoomStory is all about “Build Your RoomStory with us”! That is the brand that we are looking to build, and hope to be there in every person’s mind when they are looking to buy anything for their home from small gift items to entire home makeovers,” explains Nipun with visionary zeal.
