Post Exiting NetworkPlay, Rammohan Sundaram Launches his second media venture- PlatformPlay
NetworkPlay is an ad network that was founded by Rammohan Sundaram and incubated at Web Chutney in 2008. The company saw impressive growth over the years and was bought by Gruner+Jahr in March 2012. Web Chutney is funded by Capital18, the venture capital arm of the Network18 group and by exiting, Ram created returns for the team and investors alike.
In an announcement today, Ram has launched his second venture in the same space- PlatformPlay. PlatformPlay Media Ventures will be focussed on devising the "India entry strategy" for digital businesses looking at increasing their presence in India. Ram would be the Chairman and Managing Director with majority stakes from SVG Media and is expected to roll out multiple services related to digital advertising under the newly launched company.
Ram said that the last four-plus years as an entrepreneur were filled with tremendous learning but he still has unfinished business with the digital space. “With PlatformPlay, we would be the first of its kind firm focusing on ‘India Entry’ for various international digital brands looking at either entering or expanding their footprint in the market,” he said. One of the biggest learning Ram shared was that as an entrepreneur, one doesn’t need to worry about consequences. If one believes in a proposition, then one should back that to the hilt. You have high chances of sailing through.
SVG Media is an investor in the company and Manish Vij would join the Board of PlatformPlay as SVG Media’s representative. SVG Media is the India’s largest digital media network operating market leading businesses such as Tyroo, PrecisionMatch, DGM and Velocity in Performance, Digital Data and Display respectively.
Manish Vij, Founder & CEO, SVG Media said that SVG Media has a clear focus on investing and acquiring digital assets and being the launch pad for successful digital media businesses. Their primary reason for investing in PlatformPlay lies in the fact that Ram is behind the venture.
“There is no competition currently in the model we would be operating, which is Build, Operate, Transfer (BOT),” said Ram. The Indian digital advertising market is huge and is headed to a 2B USD mark by 2016-17; it is bound to see a lot of international entrants in the next few quarters.
