He is an enterprising and dynamic 21-year old who always dreamt of doing something innovative in life. His pockets cringed every time he saw food bills on his table and was always on the lookout for places that could offer him discounts on food and save him some money. His imprudence with spending money on food made him realize the gap which he eventually used as the idea to launch his business venture. Kartik Saboo started a food junction and one-of-its-kind website which provides food vouchers with discounts & special offers available across a number of restaurants, bars and other food & beverages outlets. KhauGaliDeals.com is a place which lists all kinds of food joints that are willing to offer customers a discount on their restaurant bills. “We are only in the food business. Food lovers especially between 17 to 26 years who love experimenting with cuisines, whether in a corporate or a student or any other individuals are our main customers” says Kartik.
He has funded his own venture and shares the office space with his elder sister who owns an advertising agency called Master Strokes. Since nine months of starting, he has put together a team of 15 food lovers who help customers 24*7, search for deals across restaurants, ice cream parlors, coffee shops, hookah points and bars. KhauGaliDeals aggregates offers from the cities of Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Jaipur and Pune.
Customers can avail discount vouchers from the website simply by registering with the site. The coupons can be used at all food joints the company has tied up with. “Each food joint is thoroughly vetted and verified before becoming our associate or seller. People may buy deals today and consume some time in future which raises the expectation quotient of the customer,” says Kartik. The KhauGaliDeals team have a team of people who personally visit restaurants, take reviews from the normal customers, analyze them & then approach the restaurant for a deal. Providing and maintaining quality in couponing industry is a must, says Kartik. And to keep a control on quality of the deals on the website, there is a minimum bar on the discounts offered as well. He believes the restaurants, parlors and other food joints benefit by tying up with them as they get free publicity and visibility without incurring huge advertising costs. These restaurants also get assured customer visits because of the tie-up explains Kartik.
Other than food coupons, there are two other sections called Loot Lo & Hot deals that are most visited and preferred sections by customers. Deals in both sections are valid across India. Loot Lo offer lucky draw contests & Hot deals give a lists of those places where customers can avail more than 50% discount. “As a company policy, we only have exclusive deals to offer customers. These deals are not offered by any rival brand,” says Kartik. For instance they have an exclusive tie-up with US Pizza of ‘Buy 1 & Get 2 free’. This partnership was very popular among users of KhauGaliDeals and they managed to sell 1,700 vouchers of this deal within a month of launch and is still going strong on the website.Maximum traffic and purchase happens before lunch hours, evenings or midnight as the site offers heavy discount vouchers during these times. Kartik says the site manages to get a lot of hits per day, worth Rs 10,000 -12,000 daily. But the conversion ratio of deals is much lesser when compared to the actual purchase that happens online. As it not practically possible to track each and every customer, random sampling is done to mark the conversion ratio. Talking about marketing the website, Kartik says: “we advertise in mediums which give us maximum ROI and online is the best for us.” In offline activities they have sponsored many college fests across India. He wants to make KhauGaliDeals.com one of the largest food junctions in India and is planning to add restaurants and food outlets from across 50 cities in India in the next six months. He also has his eyes trained on Dubai and international markets, once he gets it right in India. The venture also plans to start online food ordering and launch exclusive discount coupons. The startup is looking for external funding, to help support its expansion plans.
