Govt advocates innovation through constant research, inaugurates IIT Roorkee NBCC RnD centre

Highlighting the need for research and development in the current environment, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said that the innovation through constant research can only bring in faster infrastructure development of the nation. Naidu said this while inaugurating IIT Roorkee NBCC Research and Development Centre on sustainable civil infrastructure at IIT Roorkees Greater Noida Extension Centre.

Congratulating the initiative of NBCC and IIT Roorkee, the Minister assured both of the governments all possible support in the venture. Naidu mentioned that the research and innovation shall provide the necessary impetus to the present governments resolve to achieve the goal of housing for all by 2022 and creating 100 Smart Cities as these ventures would require adoption of new construction techniques, improved building materials, upgraded skills for smoother and faster implementation.

Outlining the objectives behind setting up this ambitious project Mittal stated that the Centre would be extensively carrying out research, training, workshops and would look for constant innovation in construction technology and adoption of green/smart features in construction. The joint research and development centre shall have initial validity of five years where NBCC would sponsor research project worth Rs 5 crore to IIT Roorkee.

NBCC has already sponsored three projects Recycled Demolition Waste, Agriculture Waste based Accelerator and Modular Construction Alternative for New Lecture Hall Complex at IIT Roorkee, for implementation. The function was also attended by NBCC CMD Anoop Kumar Mittal and IIT Roorkee Director Prof Pradipta Banerjee among others.
