PM Narendra Modi dedicates Diwali to jawans on the border
Even as the nation went into an extended weekend break with the Diwali holidays, the Prime Minister of the country made the most of this time to reach out to people.
He made an unscheduled stop to Kinnaur’s Chango village in the Himalayas meeting and interacting with villagers in the remote regions of the country. He spent the Diwali day with the soldiers guarding our borders and motivated them. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly told the jawans, “Because you guard our borders, people sleep at night. If you were not on the borders, people couldn’t have slept.”
The hills reverberated to the shouts of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” raised by the jawans of the Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Dogra Scouts along the Sino-Indian border in Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti in Himachal Pradesh. The Prime Minister distributed sweets and enquired about welfare of the jawans.
In his 25th address to the nation, 'Mann ki Baat', Modi called upon the people to recognise the selfless service of the jawans in protecting our borders. His campaign #Sandesh2Soldiers has drawn an enthusiastic response from the country with messages flooding in for the soldiers.
In his radio address, Modi said, “In the wake of recent events, our soldiers have been sacrificing their everything for the safety and security of the country. Their dedication and valour have overwhelmed me completely. Let us dedicate this Diwali to our armed forces.”
He added, “Our forces endure grave hardships for our security. Someone is stationed in a desert, someone on the Himalayas, someone is guarding our industrial installations and someone is protecting our airports. Everyone is fulfilling a mighty responsibility. If we remember them while being in a festive mood, our remembrance will give them strength and renewed energy.”
The Prime Minister also paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and recalled his contribution in uniting India and strengthening the cooperative movement. He also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary.
