5 reasons why women entrepreneurs should not miss the SheLeadsTech event in Bengaluru

5 reasons why women entrepreneurs should not miss the SheLeadsTech event in Bengaluru

Wednesday April 05, 2017 , 4 min Read

YourStory is the outreach partner for SheLeadsTech from Facebook.

In the last decade or so, the startup ecosystem in India has seen a massive growth spurt. Entrepreneurs from across the country, including a number of women, have played a part in this. In fact, a study by Facebook reveals that the entrepreneurship bug has spanned the gender divide, so much so that four out of every five women in India want to start their own business.

However, due to gender biases and preconceived notions that women should focus more on their family, very few of these dreams actually become a reality. Little wonder then that women entrepreneurs only comprise less than 10 per cent of the Indian startup ecosystem.

SheLeadsTech

The newly launched SheLeadsTech programme by Facebook aims to address this discrepancy. Facebook is partnering with Startup India to build a stronger startup ecosystem which includes more ventures that have women founders. The programme will give women entrepreneurs access to resources and exclusive mentorship to help build their businesses.

The recent launch event that was held in Delhi saw a huge turnout of women entrepreneurs, and those aspiring to start their own business. If you couldn’t be there, don’t worry. Facebook is bringing the event to Bengaluru on April 19, 2017 at Commune Coworks.

So, if you are an existing or aspiring woman entrepreneur looking for guidance and support on how to turn your startup dreams into reality, this is where you should be.

Here are five reasons why you should absolutely apply for the programme.

The best kind of mentorship

The SheLeadsTech programme will give women entrepreneurs exclusive access to experienced mentors from the industry. The list includes the likes of Shalini Prakash, Principle of 500 Startups, Durga Raghunath, Co-founder, Juggernaut Books, Naiyya Saggi, CEO and Founder, BabyChakra, Shikha Uberoi, Co-founder of Indi.com, Shradha Sharma, CEO of YourStory, Shanti Mohan, CEO & Founder of LetsVenture, Christine Chia, Dir of Platform Partnerships at FB, APAC and Sumeet Singh, CMO of Naukri. What more can you ask for?

Year-long support and learning

The participants will get support for an a entire year in the form of monthly interactive Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions with mentors. They will also get to be a part of the peer community on Facebook, and also get a chance to meet the Facebook team.

A chance to engage with women entrepreneurs who’ve made it big

During a panel discussion at the Delhi event, some of the mentors spoke about their own journey. They discussed the challenges that every woman entrepreneur faces while building tech-enabled businesses. The Bangalore event will also see a similar panel discussion where mentors will their personal experiences and learning. It’s definitely something that you don’t want to miss!

It’s all the networking you’ll need

The event will give you chance to engage with and interact with other women entrepreneurs like you, who might be facing similar challenges. This would be your big chance to learn from each other and build a strong network.

Applying is simple

Any woman founder is eligible to apply for the programme online. Any firm that has a bot on Facebook Messenger or a mobile application on the Google Play or Apple stores related to their core business idea is eligible. Once the application is approved, you will get access to FBStart which will help with technical support, as well as free credits for tools and training, among others. Selected applicants will also get an opportunity for media & visibility support from the SheLeadsTech India Program.

That’s a lot of benefits from just one programme! So, if you’re a woman founder/co-founder, and have a tech enabled startup, then the SheLeadsTech programme is tailor-made for you.

Go on and apply. It’s your time to shine!
