Nature inFocus 2018: meet the award-winning photographers promoting wildlife conservation
In Part I of our pictorial essay on this annual wildlife festival, we showcase the power of professionals and volunteers in raising awareness about nature through photography.

The fifth nature and wildlife festival Nature inFocus (NiF) is being held this weekend at Hotel Oterra, Electronics City, Bengaluru (see our earlier photo essay from Nature inFocus 2017 here).
NiF 2018 also includes film screenings, the NiF Photography Awards (NPA), and the inaugural ‘Wild Nation’ photography exhibition. NPA has drawn over 600 participants, with 5,200 images submitted across six categories.
The annual conference attracts photographers, filmmakers and ecologists from across the globe, discussing nature, wildlife and conservation. The speaker lineup includes wildlife photographer Will Burrard-Lucas, conservation scientist Krithi K Karanth, marine conservationist Aaron Savio Lobo, underwater filmmaker Anup J Kattukaran, botanical illustrator NirupaRao, and National Geographic explorers Munmun Dhalaria and Malaika Vaz.
In this photo essay, we showcase some of the exhibits from ‘The Wild Nation: Exploring India's Wilderness’ at NiF 2018. NiF co-founder Rohit Varma joins us in an interview in Part II of this photo essay.
There are 100 images on display at the exhibition, across five different categories: Deserts and Grasslands (curated by Arati Kumar-Rao), Rivers and Oceans (curated by Tasneem Khan), Mountains (curated by Harsha J and Payal Mehta), Rainforests (curated by Vijay Mohan Raj), and Deciduous Forests (curated by Shivang Mehta). Over 2,300 images were submitted by participants all over the country.
