Bengaluru airport taxis take on pink hue specially for women passengers
The Bengaluru international airport now has a pink taxi service by women for women.
Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport is now swathed in pink. We are not talking of the interiors, but a fleet of pink taxis recently launched for women.
With an increasing number of women travelling, both for work or personal purposes, safety is high on their list of priorities while travelling from the airport, especially during odd hours. Given that the Bengaluru airport is at a significant distance from most parts of the city, a taxi service for women was the need of the hour.
The pink cabs driven by women were flagged off on Monday by airport authorities as a specific taxi service for women passengers. It was started by the Karnataka State Tourism Development (KSTDC) and Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL).
The pink cabs will be functional 24X7 and will have safety features like GPRS tracking and an SOS switch for emergencies. It is priced at Rs 21.50 per km during the day and Rs 23.50 per km during the night. Though started on an experimental basis with a fleet of 10 cars, airport authorities believe an increase in demand will lead to an increase in services.
The Bangalore Airport handle tweeted:
So next time, you are travelling alone and want a safe ride back home, take a pink taxi. Support this endeavour by women to keep you safe!
