Launched in 2014, PhotoSparks is a weekly feature from YourStory, with photographs that celebrate the spirit of creativity and innovation. In the earlier 920 posts, we featured an art festival, cartoon gallery. world music festival, telecom expo, millets fair, climate change expo, wildlife conference, startup festival, Diwali rangoli, and jazz festival.
The annual Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) kicked off this week at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) with a range of policy announcements by the Karnataka government. Three new policies focusing on information technology, space tech, and startups position the state as a key global investment destination (see YourStory’s coverage here).
The 28th edition of the summit has been organised by the Department of Electronics, IT & BT, Government of Karnataka, and Software Technology Parks of India (STPI). It was also attended by international delegates, including Jan Christian Vestre, Minister of Health and Care Services, Norway; Nicholas Reece, Mayor of Melbourne, Australia; and Rafal Rosinski, Deputy Minister of Digitisation, Poland.

Futurise is the theme of this year’s summit, which brings together global leaders, policymakers, investors, startups, and innovators to explore emerging frontiers across sectors. There are ten focused conference tracks, as well as a run-up to the India AI Impact Summit.
The summit is expected to bring together over 50,000 visitors, including 1,000 investors, 500 speakers, and 1,000 exhibitors. Participants signed up from over 60 countries and all 30 states and union territories of India. DPIIT’s Startup India is the Startup Partner.
On the policy front, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that centres of excellence in AI, cybersecurity, robotics, and quantum will be scaled up in Karnataka. Also, IT penetration will be boosted across Tier II and III cities, enabling balanced regional development in cities beyond Bengaluru.

There is also a focus on sustainability, inclusion, and social impact. The government will help strengthen upstream and downstream space capabilities. Overall, the target is to enable the creation of 25,000 startups over the next five years.
The Local Economic Accelerator Programme (LEAP) is focused on creating clusters across several regions of Karnataka, harnessing their demographic dividend and talent pool. Bengaluru reportedly hosts over 400 R&D centres of multinationals and 12,000 active startups.
