Depression is a mental health depression that is very common these days. It may be more easily defined as a mood disorder that is characterized by the feeling of sadness, low mood and lack of interesting in everything. It is a very serious issue and has been affecting lives form a very long time. Depression is seen more among college students and the major reasons for such disorder among college students include academic stress, work stress, inability to handle finances or sense of isolation because of living away with family and friends. Though it a very common issue but it is important to know that it is a serious issue. Besides being serious, it is a treatable illness.

There should be no one to should suffer in silence and face the harsh reality of depression on a constant basis. If you see anyone around, having these symptoms you should not avoid it. The symptoms that depict depression include: Feeling of sadness or emptiness, irritable behavior, sudden angry outburst, loss of interest in things, insomnia or sleeping too much, lack of energy, eating disorder, anxiety and restlessness, trouble in thinking and making decisions, suicidal thoughts, unexplained backpains or headaches etc. All these are the symptoms of depression and if you anyone having any of these, do not take it for granted.

Under this article, we will be discussing various tips and tricks that are useful in handling depression among college students.

1. OPT FOR PSYCHOTHERAPY-

No one should be made to suffer the illness alone. There are many expert and licensed professionals of mental health that can offer support to the people suffering from depression and help them overcome the illness. These experts can help the patients to identify the major causes leading to depression and the ways that can help to address the issues. There are many educational institutions that are considering the issue and providing psychotherapy or expert services inside the campus at a very low or no cost.

2. EXERCISE-

Exercise has numerous physical benefits including healthy heart, reducing fat, maintaining blood pressure, enhancing strength, and many more. Besides physical health benefits, exercise has its impact on mental health benefits as well. It also leads to improved memory and enhanced thinking abilities. The students dealing with depression should start getting themselves involved in the practice of exercising. If they feel that going to the gym is too much to start with, they can simply initiate by talking a walk of 30-45 minutes a day. Exercise leads to production of endorphins which ultimately results in an increased feeling of wellness.

3. TRY MEDICATION-

If you feel that you are experiencing symptoms of depression, you can primarily opt for talking about it with your initial caretaker or doctor. You can consult your doctor and tell him/ her about how you feel. Your doctor can be of great help in coming over depression by prescribing medicines that will assist you in curing the illness. The advances in medical science have provided us with many medicines that can help in curing depression. Thus, it will be preferable to go for medication.

4. SPENDING TIME IN NATURE-

Spending time in nature has proved to be very beneficial in reducing the symptoms of depression among people. Spending time in nature and connecting with it has shown improved mental health. The process of spending time in nature and boosting mental health is called ecotherapy. The process is sometimes called as nature therapy or green therapy. A walk in the realm of nature has also proved to very helpful in treating mental issues. In fact, the added benefit of spending time in nature is that people are continuously involved in any kind of exercise including: walking, running, skiing, hiking etc. that helps in reducing depression.

5. IMPROVE YOUR SLEEPING HABITS-

It is very common for the people suffering from depression to address sleeping disorders. People who suffer the illness either sleep too much or do not sleep at all. It is very important for the patients to manage their sleeping habits and get enough sleep to improve their physical and mental health.
