From mitigating climate change to helping farmers get their due price: top Social Stories this week
This week in SocialStory, we saw the stories of people who have gone out of their way to help the needy with basic essentials, as well as looked into issues like climate change.
As we bring in 2022, here's a look at some of the inspiring stories from the past year in this week's wrap .
Earlier this week, SocialStory combined the top 10 Monday Motivation stories of 2021. We also discussed on the issues to be focused the year ahead. From a robust health policy, to improving sustainability and inclusivity, we put together a list of areas we think needs to be looked into or improved in the year 2022.
Top 10 inspirational stories of 2021 that started Monday on a positive note
The year 2021 started with a ray of hope, with the world possibly looking at the end of COVID-19 – people escaping social captivity and returning to their normal lives. But the second wave of the pandemic dashed all hopes as hospitals got jam-packed with patients, states imposing lockdown, and the air being filled with a sense of doom.
It was the time when inspirational stories became the need of the hour - to reinstate hope by talking about people who were dedicating their lives for the greater good.
This year, SocialStory became an instrument to spread positivity with its Monday Motivation series that featured stories of people not just coming to the aid of others in their time of need, but also acting on protecting and serving communities, animals, and the environment.
This agritech startup is helping farmers get their due price and empowering transgender communities as well
Entrepreneur Shyam Prashad Rajasekaran knew the problems faced by farmers, especially in the supply chain process, as his grandparents were into agriculture.
During the peak of COVID-19 first wave in 2020, Shyam saw how the farmers were affected by the pandemic. He went and met a few farmers in and around Coimbatore, and after speaking to them about the prices at which they offered their products and on the engagement of the middlemen, he got clarity on the problems faced by them.
Shyam, who had started up before, wanted to create an impact among farmers and consumer communities in the agritech space.
He started Veg Route along with his long-time friend Anand Alagarsamy in July 2020. The Chennai-based agritech B2C supply chain platform helps farmers to offer fresh produce to customers at the best price by employing technology and creating sustainable ways for the growth.
[Outlook 2022] From inclusivity to a robust public health policy: key issues to focus this year
As we bid goodbye to yet another unprecedented year - 2021 - when India dealt with a brutal second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, it is important that we reflect on lessons learnt and unlearnt.
From shortcomings in the health sector to a blooming digital transformation, from coping with unseasonal rains and floods to India's farmers uniting against proposed farm laws, India as a country has witnessed a tremendous year in 2021. But one thing that did stand out through all the crises was the spirit of generosity and solidarity across sectors and communities, which only gives us hope for the year ahead.
With that in mind, here are four key issues that we think should be focussed upon immensely in 2022.
Mitigating CO2 emissions to conserve the nature
An American politician once said, ‘Energy conservation is the foundation of energy independence.’ The rapid integration of digitalisation, urbanisation, globalisation, and a huge demographic shift has been impacting the health of humans and slowly depleting the quality of the air we breathe.
Over the past few decades, ‘climate change’ has also become a critical issue that cannot be overlooked. The excessive use of energy and resources across the globe has been one of the most pressing issues.
The global population that stands at 7.9 billion and that is growing consistently poses a huge threat to the world’s depleting natural resources such as coal, oil, and gas. Adopting sustainability practices has become the number one priority for a lot of industries.
Many of us are already following basic practices such as switching off electrical and electronic appliances, lights and fans, when not in use.
