About_WTS

“India’s music scene is dead, says who?” asks Priyanka Shetty, the co-founder of WhatsTheScene, a startup that covers live music concerts across India. WTS is an initiative started by Priyanka Shetty and Sidharth Mohan in July 2010 with the aim of promoting the live music scene in India and taking it closer to the masses through unbiased music journalism.

They started out with a Facebook Page and that’s what they thrived on even when we met them last year but the response they’ve generated has pushed them to make a site and take WTS to the next level. The amount of passion behind the initiative has been tremendous and this can be gauged from the fact that Priyanka and Sidharth have been able to onboard more than 100 people from across nine cities in India who report about music without taking home a paycheck (which is about to change). We invited Priyanka Shetty over to our office for a chat and here’s what she had to say:

WhatsTheScene has managed to build a good reach on Facebook and some of the best music festivals in the county have started inviting them to cover the event. In this second part of the video, Priyanka talks about the revenue model and their conscious decision to stay away from organizing their own concerts as WTS intends to be a purely unbiased journalistic platform. She also talks about their new app coming up and the road ahead:
