Apple iPhone 6, Is it worth the wait ?

Apple iPhone 6, Is it worth the wait ?

Tuesday June 17, 2014 , 3 min Read

The most eagerly anticipated release in the coming months will definitely be the iPhone 6.With all the rumors and speculations going around about the iPhone 6 it has surely stirred up a hornets nest, with everyone eagerly awaiting its release.

There are a few Apple fanboys who really like the 4-inch Display of the iPhone 5S and its predecessors and then there are a few who find it difficult to work with it and want a larger display. Apple seems to have taken customer feedback into account for their iPhone 6.Here is a Summary of all the rumors, so far:

iPhone6 evolution
Evolution of iOS

Size:

The iPhone 6 will come in 2 variants : a 4.7-inch display, and another with an even larger 5.5-inch display, which has been termed a 'phablet'

Compared to its predecessors which were much smaller at either 3.5 or 4-inches, this is a major change.

Display :

The smaller 4.7-inch iPhone will most likely have a 2K resolution display.

iPhone 6 will come with an Ultra-Retina display with 389 pixels per inch. The iPhone 5s’ Retina Display had a resolution of 326 ppi.

There were a few rumours in Januray this year that stated that Apple was working on solar charging sapphire glass screen.

Those of you who are familiar with the iPhone 5S will recognize that the Sapphire glass had been used on the iSight camera. Sapphire crystal, whose hardness is second only to diamond on the scale of transparent materials. This will enhance the durability of the iPhone 6 and overcome one of the issues of its predecessors, which was cracked screens. Which was one of the main reasons for Apple warranty claims.

Processor :

2.6GHz A8 chip with 64 bit Architecture, which would make it significantly faster than iPhone 5s’ 1.3GHz A7 chip. It will have 1GB RAM, Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and also an improved 8-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS).

The iPhone 6 is expected to run iOS8, which may feature a new apps such as Healthbook, TextEdit and Preview, improved Maps and inter-app communication capabilities among other things.

 Dimensions:

The dimensions are 137.5 x 67 x 7mm. It is slightly longer in length and width but slimmer than the iPhone 5s which was 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm

According to other rumors, the iPhone 6 might be 0.22 inches (5.59 mm) thick, which is almost 26% thinner than its predecessor the iPhone 5s, which is 0.30 inches (7.6 mm) thick.

Sensors:

Macrumors relays a report from G for Games, which claims that iPhone 6 will come with atmospheric pressure, temperature and humidity sensors.

These new sensors may complement the iWatch’s presumed sensors ,which will measure heart rate, glucose levels, hydration levels and calories.

Price:

Apple is known for its premium phones with amazing build quality and premium feel. But this always comes at a price. Exact prices are not yet known but what has been confirmed is that the 5.5-inch 'phablet' will cost 100$ more than the 4.7-inch model of the iPhone 6

Battery Life:

iPhone6

Considering that the iPhone 6, 4.7-inch model will have a 2k display, it will most likely have poor battery life as it features a much bigger and better screen, as well as a thinner build.

But there are rumors that Apple might still be able to provide decent battery life, with a slightly larger battery sandwiched between the already extremely thin phone.

Final Verdict:

With better displays, faster processors and thinner build, the iPhone 6 variants definitely look like winners, but there is still a lot we don't know about them. So only time will tell if the iPhone 6 will be successful in a market already saturated by other amazing smartphones.
