7 incredible online tools to check your grammar
When it comes to grammar, it sure can be a hassle to know each and every rule. We just want to write our piece and be done with it. However, when writing for the public, it’s crucial to be as professional as possible. In fact, having a simple spelling mistake can cut your sales in half. The problem is, we all live busy lives on a day-to-day basis, and fitting in the time to check grammar on a 2,000+ word article, discursive essay, or blog post can be time-consuming. Luckily for you, there are many online tools to check your grammar.
#1- Ginger
This is my personal favorite grammar checking software. The great thing about Ginger is the fact that it’s free. Of course, you can upgrade to a premium account for as low as $7.49 a month to get more features. With Ginger, you can get a full analysis report of your mistakes, along with many other things. Overall, this is a pretty good option for anyone looking to find quick edits to his or her writing piece.
#2- White Smoke
Coming in at second place is White Smoke. Starting at $9.95 a month, this software will check your grammar and spelling, translate your text if necessary, and it will even check the writing for plagiarism. Because this software is more expensive than Ginger and doesn’t have lessons/exercises, it has an overall lower score in my opinion. However, White Smoke is still well-suited for anyone who wants high quality editing!
#3- Grammarly
Grammarly is a quality grammar checking service with high accuracy, however, there are some things holding it back from being better. The first thing is that it’s two cents per word, so you don’t get to just pay once a month and have multiple writing pieces. Second off is the fact that you have to submit the writing and wait for a response, so you don’t get immediate results. However, if you have time, this is still a great service to send in for edits.
#4- Paper Rater
This software is free, but you can also upgrade to a premium account for $7.95 a month. It doesn’t have as high of accuracy as the other tools, but it’s still pretty decent for the most part. The main problem is that you don’t have many options without purchasing the upgrade. Overall, this definitely will help you with your needs, but you’ll need to fork over some money for better features.
#5- Language Tool
A definite advantage of this service is that it’s completely free. However, results are very limited. When you check the text, it highlights your areas and that’s about it. Most of the other services on here have added on features such as plagiarism checking or lessons, but you will not have that if you choose to use Language Tool.
#6- Spell Checker
Just like Language Tool, this service is pretty limited. You can do a basic check on your writing piece, but other than that, it doesn’t tell you much. Also, accuracy is way lower than in many other services higher up on the list. However, a good thing about Spell Checker is that it’s free.
#7- Proofread Bot
Proofread Bot most likely has higher accuracy than Language Tool and Spell Checker, but it isn’t free. It costs a minimum of $5 plus more if you have more than a certain amount of words. Again, like the other few, this service is pretty limited. You can’t do much other than getting edits on grammar and spelling mistakes. If that’s all you’d like to do, however, Proofread Bot could be the perfect match for you.
In general, there are many services to check your writing. As you can tell from reading this list though, there are only a few that are shockingly good, while most are just mediocre. It’s important to choose your editing service wisely, since there are many that don’t have high accuracy. Using grammar checking software is great, and even if you are super confident in your writing, you should at least use one of the free ones on the list. After all, you could lose a good amount of business or some points that will affect your grade, if you are a student, just for misspelling a single word.
