Kaava – A new beginning with a sea of experience
Two creative interior architects, one passion, one goal. The birth of Kaava has been a journey of two inspirational women who met on a trip to Srilanka. Their hunger to explore the architectural world got them to interact and realise that they both shared the same love for colours and design style - contemporary, rustic, earthy, and organic.
Though their journey began in 2015, Avantika Gargya and Kalpana Ramesh started their joint venture, Kaava, in 2016. The name is derived as a combination of their names, “Ka”lpana and “Ava”ntika, symbolizing the amalgamation of their ideas and creativity. It has interior design solutions and furniture design consultancy under its umbrella. The team has bagged two IIID-HRC awards this year in the Interior Design-Commendation Award in Residential Villa and Special Jury Category adding onto the list of previous three awards.
The two design entrepreneurs have a definite idea on what makes a start-up successful – its uniqueness. Both the partners are responsible towards the environment and it shows in their work. Every selection made for each project takes the eco-friendliest option available. The Kaava philosophy of being true to the nature leads it to use local material and craft as much as possible. This also helps in the growth of the local markets and crafters.
They do not have a one-style-fits-all approach to designing an object – furniture or space. While providing designs, they consider the piece of work in context of its environment. The team provides truly personalized service to each of the clients. The designs are created through the specific requirements given by the client to deliver the project customized to their functional, aesthetic and budgetary needs without losing sight of the elements of design.
Together they bring a wide ranged portfolio – from residential apartments and villas for heads of corporate such as HR Head–Deloitte, GM-Microsoft, MD-Progress Projects, and Forbes Millionaire of the Year, to guesthouses for Apollo Hospitals, corporate spaces of 40000sft floor plates for MNC’s such as to boutique stores like Fabindia and Saran.
Through research and on-the-job tie-ups, the team has developed a quality network of vendors, suppliers, contractors and specialist consultants making them the one-point-contact for the clients for the entire project. A great deal of thought goes into space planning, architectural alterations, colour schemes, finishes, furniture, materials, furnishings and collaboration with experts for safety precautions.
Avantika and Kalpana achieve and maintain their uniqueness by taking frequent trips for architectural inspiration. Exploring local markets for material, design and themes is an integral part of their lives. Research on the local arts and crafts gives the duo an edge over the competitors to delivery uniquely designed spaces. The entrepreneurial dyad collaborates with design and architectural institutes to interact with young individuals in these spaces to share their experience, guide them and gain from their young energy.
Their desire and commitment to provide creative and functional spaces is guided by their philosophy of giving a psychological and phenomenal experience to their clients each time, every time – this is imbibed into the Kaava culture.
