Yourstory learnt more from the beautiful and talented Preetika Dubey about her passion for Fine Jewellery and entrepreneurship in a freewheeling interview.
What kind of work does Preetika Dubey fine jewelry produce?
We design limited edition collections and undertake private commissioning of jewelry, keeping in mind the personality and look of the wearer for every occasion from a wedding to a dinner or a cocktail or simply everyday jewelry.
Our jewelry is the best bet if you want to own ornaments that are not available at any store across the world. You are assured of owning some fine jewelry that is sure to keep you in the center of attraction at any party or social event that you choose to attend
Who are you aiming your services and products at?
The aim of our organization is to reach out to those people to are tired of the same old cookie cutter clusters and bracelets to choose from. What would your husband or boyfriend say if he got a bracelet made of his favorite stones, and he has looked everywhere unable to find exactly what he wanted? And you got it for him, exactly as he pictured it. If you were to find a basic idea for a piece of jewelry and then we add our own flair to it, this is custom designed jewelry. Choosing to go with custom made jewelry instead of purchasing commercially produced items is a great way to go if you have eclectic tastes or simply want something that is not just like what everyone else is wearing.
What are the differences between your limited edition collections and custom pieces?
The main difference between our limited edition collections and custom piece is that it is individually crafted for the future owner whereas mass produced jewelry has multiple copies of the same item which can be purchased by various individuals. In other words a custom piece will be unique in nature as it will only be for the individual for whom it was made. In the alternative, mass produced items will be offered for sale in many different stores and various individuals can possess the same exact piece of jewelry. There are quite a few benefits associated with buying custom items.First, these items are ones which are unique in nature. With a jewelry piece which is custom made, nobody else will have an item quite like yours. This unique feature is one of the main reasons why people opt for this unique style of manufacture. Another benefit to selecting a custom made diamond jewelry piece over one which is mass produced is that these items are usually so exquisitely crafted that one can simply tell it is custom made just by looking at it, even from a distance. The painstaking details and care which one who makes custom pieces goes through enables the finished product to be nothing less than spectacular. Also, this unique style is the perfect item to hand down from generation to generation. Due to its unique characteristics and often special sentiment behind the diamond jewelry piece, having a custom made jewelry item to hand down through the generations is another benefit which can be seen with purchasing a custom made diamond jewelry piece.
What steps are you taking to increase your business idea’s potential?
Currently I am selling my jewelry through my website, we ship through out India. Very soon my collection will also be available for international customers along with that I have plans to collaborate with other like minded artists and exhibit my work in jewelry shows and customer centric boutiques.
What has been the biggest challenge that the jewellery segment has thrown your way?
For entrepreneurs like me, who have little or no experience in the industry—and without a family history in jewelry business—the endeavor is especially difficult. Learning how to determine product quality and value, find vendors for specific products, and establish the right product mix for your market is a long trial-and-error process. Formal jewelry education is the key to overcome these problems, I have been lucky enough to study under great masters at Indian institute of gems and jewelry (iigj), Mumbai and then further my jewelry education at Metallo nobile and Alchimia: Contemporary Jewelry School in Florence, Italy
What do you think are the mistakes you made as an amateur entrepreneur?I believed that I could do it all, work harder than anyone else, and that effort alone will allow me to succeed. It is so easy to fall into the trap of doing it all. Nobody is an expert at everything, Know what you don’t know, and accept the help of experts. That doesn’t make you weak, it makes you stronger.
What is your vision for Preetika Dubey fine jewelry in 2012?
I am looking forward to building better market placement, loyal clientele,More diversified jewelry range in my collection and lots of inspiration
Have you found fame in something other than your current entrepreneurial venture?
I won the subtitle of “the most potential” contestant at the prestigious Gladrags mega model Contest. To me potential= possibilities, I love possibilities for they give hope and build faith
What do you think are areas that an entrepreneur should give prime importance to?
You must have VISION TO SEE our potential, and FAITH TO BELIEVE that you can;
Then COURAGE TO ACT with conviction .Make sure that you unplug every now and then. When you are starting a business, in all reality, your work is never done. After client work, you have to work on promoting your business so you can continue to get new clients in the door. While all of this is important, it’s also important to take some time to yourself every now and then so you don’t burn out!
